Philippines’ record capital wage rise leaves workers hungry for more

Editorial Staff · 1 min read

The recent wage increase in the Philippine capital marks the largest ever approved, raising the minimum wage to 85 pesos (approximately US$1.40). However, this amount is barely enough to buy a meal for one person, let alone a family of five.

Workers are expressing their dissatisfaction, as the modest increase does not align with the rising costs of living, particularly for essential goods like food.

Many are calling for further wage adjustments to ensure that their earnings can adequately support their families and meet basic needs.
